Mae West Lips Sofa : ウィキペディア英語版 | Mae West Lips Sofa
The ''Mae West Lips Sofa'' (1937) is a surrealist sofa by Salvador Dalí. The wood-and-satin sofa was shaped after the lips of actress Mae West, whom Dalí apparently found fascinating.〔Shelley, Landry. ("Dalí Wows Crowd in Philadelphia" ). ''Unbound'' (The College of New Jersey) Spring 2005. Retrieved July 22, 2006.〕 It measures 86.5 x 183 x 81.5 cm (34 x 72 x 32 in). Edward James, a rich British patron of the Surrealists in the 1930s, commissioned this piece from Dalí. Dalí never intended for the sofa to serve a functional use. He claimed that he partly based the design of the sofa on a pile of rocks near the resort Cadaques. In 1972, "Studio 65" updated Dalí's Mae West Lips Sofa and called it the Marilyn Bocca Sofa in honor of Marilyn Monroe. Unlike Dalí's original work, the Marilyn Bocca Sofa has a more practical use in the home and has become a Gitt of classic modern design. 〔http://www.moderndesign.org/2010/01/studio-65-gufram-bocca-lip-sofa.html〕〔http://www.sofa.com/inspiration-corner/culture/history-culture-100-sofas-furniture-1-salvador-dalis-mae-west-lips-sofa-1937〕 ==See also==
